Rolling up to a quarter million miles on my Explorer, I cant complain a whole lot. The total repair costs in the last 8 years, since I bought it was $9,108, equivalent to a $95 per month car payment. Ususally there are 2 to 3 repairs per year, about $300 each time. Note that everything went wrong at 175,000, so I spent $3,000 in repairs over 1000 miles (most of that was rebuilding the transmission). The next 60,000 miles were great. At 235,000 another $2,000 in repairs because I messed things up myself (didnt tighten new headlight it fell out of socket and burnt engine wiring and everyting in path). At quarter- million, cracked cylinders - expensive fix >3K, said no. Still good parts

I on average get 18-20 around town and have got 26 mpg on the highway but this was using cruise. The truck performance around the farm as been great. It has not gotten stock. The body looks brand new and the truck has nver left me somewere. The truck has 122,000 miles and still get better mph then my new Ford

As a Ford man from a family of Ford lovers this is my first Explorer and I must say in the 2 months Ive owned it I love it. Im wising I would have bought one sooner. I had a 92 Bronco 2 it just didnt perform the same. I must say the 92 two door sport is a keeper.

  • The Explorer Just Keeps Running.... - 1992 Ford Explorer

We have owned our Ford Explorer since 1998. The model we bought is a 1992. We purchased it with approx. $75k miles on it. The only thing that has gone srong is an $80 fuel mix sensor. The car is reliable, well designed and has never left us on the side of the road. The car is now 12 years old and has proven as reliable as any car I have owned in the past. The 4x4 capabiltiies have been stronlgy utilized in Lake Tahoe and Reno areas in Summer and Winter. The car was also used to tow a light motor boat to and from the San Francisco Delta area. Ford made a great car that is easy to service and I expect to last into the 200k miles+ range easily.

I bought the Explorer from my sister with 203,000 miles on it. Since Ive put 6,000 on it with no problems. In its 15 year life span the Explorer had only needed maintenance, a muffler, and a transmission...not bad for 209,000 miles. I suggest one for anyone who likes them...great ride.

I owned a new 4dr 93 Eddie Baurer 4 x 4 w/ the works. It was to big for me. I got a 95 2dr. 4x4 xlt. Nothing fancy but reliability & handling has been wonderful. These vehicles are just the right height & sz. for handling and to put in the garage. My vehicle will die before I give it up. I am like wheres Waldo, I mountain bike so this vehicle is loaded and unloaded many times a wk. It is off road alot and it has always worked for me. Guess what Im a lady owner.

Ihave used this car in normal driving to distant ski and hiking sites, requiring 4wd in snow butnever driven it off of designated roadways. It has performed admirably and maintenance cost hasbeen reasonable with noi maker breakdowns or replacements required.
