This Year's Model Updates:

The TL has been completely redesigned for 2004. A 270-horsepower V6 is standard, and both a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic transmission are available. The level of luxury inside the cabin is up, and driving dynamics are better than ever.

Pros:
  • Luxurious interior, long list of standard equipment, powerful V6 engine, slick-shifting six-speed manual, pleasant blend of ride comfort and fun.

  • Nice car bad torque steer - 2004 Acura TL
    By -

The Acura TL is a nice car but with the 6 speed transmission the torque-steer can be annoying. The car felt uncomfortable in the wet due to this issue. I thought the interior was great and bluetooth worked well. Rust was a huge issue on the rear wheel well and just behind the door. This set in fairly early in the cars life. Even making efforts to keep this at bay failed... anywhere there was a spot weld in the fender lip.

Bought for my wife last winter. Very quick straight line but horrible front wheel drive handling. Torque steer very dangerous and at high speeds car gets very light. Most people are fooled that front wheel drive vehicles are superior but with sport tires on vehicle TL is useless in snow. Bought infiniti G35X for myself and for the same money there is no comparison. Wife now borrows my car every chance she gets. Also every 60,000 miles plan on spending $1,200 on a timing belt. My Infiniti is a timing chain and never needs to be replaced. Thank god we only did a 24 month lease.

  • shake,rattle and roll - 2004 Acura TL

Have owned my TL for about a year, and this car has more quality issues than any new car Ive owned. I am shocked that Acura would release a car to the public without proper testing and quality control. This thing rattles like a box of bolts, and has numerous cosmetic issues with the paint, dash and interior parts. The seats and door locks have a mind of their own. I have accumulated a list of 14 items that the dealer will be asked to fix. This is ridiculous, I will not be purchasing another Acura.

  • Big Letdown! - 2004 Acura TL

I bought this car new and was so excited. It is sharp, fast and nimble. My excitement quickly turned into a nightmare. From day one this car was a rattle trap, and in less than a week it was already back at the dealer. This car has spent 17 days in the shop since I have owned it. The bridgestone tires are terrible, and like other people writing reviews here the leather seats wear very quickly. I am so disappointed in acura. I expect better from a honda product. I seriously hope people read this review before buying this car. I wouldnt wish this nightmare on anyone else!!

  • Quality Issues - 2004 Acura TL

The Acura TL is definitely a great looking car. However, it has many problems that Acura is not willing to share...well here is the list: The paint has shrinkage. You can see this in proper lighting. I have seen the defects on almost every car. The paint on the bumper cover peels at the mounting point. Rattles in the dash area. Rattles in headliner. The center console will sweat when using the air conditioning. I was told by the dealer that the coil was located in the center console. No fix available!!!

  • Disappointing..... - 2004 Acura TL

I had high expectations of this car and have been disappointed. Performance is good, but not excellent. Build quality is not good. Interior rattles too numerous to ever fix. The car has less than 4000 miles on it and rattles like a 20 year-old Yugo! The dealer is no help. Sound system is excellent, but dont plan on enjoying anything with much bass as speakers and door panels vibrate and rattle with only moderate volume. I had moved from a Saab 9-5 to this car expecting higher quality and more luxury. Im working hard to find a way to get out of this and back to Saab or BMW. No comparison!

  • Solid but boring/ Needs rear wheel drive - 2004 Acura TL

This car has all the extras that get you excited about a car. The downside is that the vehicle while powered well does not give you a feel you would want from a sport sedan. The understeer is very noticeable and quite frustrating. If you are looking for a comparable car in the 35K range buy the G35. I made a mistake because I like to drive.

Build quality is very poor on my new 2004 Tl. Fit and finish is marginal at its best, and talk about defects on car at delivery, they are to many to mention. Acura get your act together. Car has a major tire problem with the Bridgestone Turanza that comes as original equipment on the car. Tire gives a terrible ride, and flat spotting and vibration are a problem with this tire on my new TL.

  • My 3rd Acura - 2004 Acura TL

Well, I should have known after two prior so-so experiences with new Acuras. The car is less than exciting to drive, quickly develops multiple rattles and vibrations and has inferior service to my experience with Lexus and Mercedes. In fact, the car is very inferior in all aspects (except with its looks) with any Lexus Ive owned. This will probably be my last Acura with my repetitive disappointing experience.

  • Poor Quality - 2004 Acura TL

Ive had a terrible experience with this car and quality of build. The car has paint shrinkage in the base coat causing sand marks to appear in the finish. The car bumper cover is also peeling on the sides were mounted to the fender because of excess stress. In addition, the car has many rattles and idles rough. This car cannot compare to a 3 series BMW or Lexus ES330. Dont make the mistake and purchase this bug infested car. Their reps even admit to the rattles and the dealer admitted the paint peeling issue on the bumper covers. What a car!!!!!
