  • Fun - Luxury & Performance - 2006 Nissan Maxima

This is the 4th Maxima I have owned. It is by far the the most sporty. I compared all the other cars (TL, Accord, Camry, Avalon, G35) and came back to the Maxima. It has the best engine and features for the money. My last Maxima, I had to replace the oxygen sensor and alternator although it had low miles. Even with a couple of repairs factored in I come out ahead of the other cars. Ive had no problems with my 2006 SL and really like all the features including Bluetooth, which comes with the driver preferred pkg. This car drives excellent with great power and a nice little growl from the engine! Steve Hipshin with Tom Peacock in Houston is the best salesperson- great price and service.

I bought my 2006 Maxima slightly used in late 2006 with 15k miles on it. Everything was great for the first couple of years. Did go through two sets of tires though. At 72k miles the A/C began blowing hot air. A couple of months later, the transmission went out (hard shift between gears). A couple months after that a fuel leak and cracked motor mounts. The good news is Im now at 80k and am just replacing the brakes. There is also a hollow metal sound coming from the car. Fortunately I bought a great extended warranty (that expires in Nov.) that has picked up everything but the A/C. Come Dec. I will likely get rid of the car since its too expensive to repair.

  • Poor Making Of The Car - 2006 Nissan Maxima

I have a 2006 Nissian Maxima and Ive been had this car for about 4 years now, I start experiencing problems with it last year after my warranty was up. First of all the AC went out and begun to blow hot air and costed me over $300 to get fixed then about January when I reached about 72,000 miles my car began to Jerk and take about 4-5 seconds to go into drive, reverse, etc. So I took it to the Nissan dealer and had them do a dianostic check about 3 times and they told me nothing was wrong so I got my transmission serviced around March and the jerking stopped and now it has started back and now my transmission has gone out and is costing me about $3,000 to get fixed. POOR QUALITY IM UPSET!!!!

  • One seemingly unsolvable problem - 2006 Nissan Maxima

This is my third Maxima. I have been very pleased with them over the years. I love the design and performance of the car. However, I cannot get the dealer/Nissan to solve one problem: the bluetooth volume drops to suddenly and returns at random. The dealer has not been able to fis it to date. They have replaced the radio but the problem persists. Additionally, the front two right speakers stoped working all of the sudden this weekend. Also, when I discovered one week after I got the car that the lsft retractable side mirror was not working. Too many problems for a new car. They seem like assembly/production problems.

  • Never thought I would get stranded in a Nissan - 2006 Nissan Maxima

Was searching for a reliable car to get me through college. Bought this car hoping it would do the job. It ran great for 3 weeks untill the transmission went out while driving. Had to pull over and get the car towed home. Now im stuck far from home with basically no transportation. Im getting quotes from $2.5-3.5k on transmision rebuilds. What a nightmare. do not buy this car unless you get the manual one.

This was my 3rd Maxima. No real issues. Have a 3 year lease and turning it back in and lease an 09 Had to replace OEM (Continental) tires at 26K even with Nissan dealership rotating at 5k intervals. Front brakes are ready to be replaced at 34K. Cruise control is very inconsistent especially on down hill situations. Engine is starting to run a little rough at 35K. I have no regrets with the vehicle. It was a very safe and reliable car for my wife to drive.

  • Sooooooo disappointed - 2006 Nissan Maxima

I purchased a 2006 Maxima about 2 years ago. Within that 2 years, Ive repaired the airconditioning unit, replaced the transmission, and replaced the catalytic converter. Nissan wont do anything, even though these are common problems! Ive put thousands of dollars into this car. I loved it when I bought it and I thought Id be a Nissan owner for life, but now I know Ill never purchase another one!! This was so not worth the money, Im very disappointed.

  • Some Disappointments With My 2006Maxima - 2006 Nissan Maxima

The car is attractive and roomy. The engine is very peppy. But there are some things that disappoint me. The Owners Manual is not well written and is confusing in places. The controls for heating and cooling are a total mystery. Things happen that I would not want to happen such as the AC turing on ecven though its 30 degrees outside. The big possible problem is that sometimes on braking the car swerves. I feel the steering wheel twist in my hands. The service advisor at the dealership says this is due to the 18" wheels and is uncorrectable. I cannot accept that proposition.

I had planned to buy an SUV but the salesman told me that I would be missing out if I didnt try driving a Maxima. I told him I wasnt interested, but my wife said why not. So we jumped in and took it for drive. WOW!! I was impressed! We drove back to the dealer and I told them there was a shimmy in the steering wheel. Two days later they called and said they found a bad flat spot on one tire and fixed it. We went back for a second test drive; kept it over night and decided to buy it. I never thought I would ever purchase a 4-door car again until I drove the Maxima. What a fantastic vehicle Nissan has made. Speaking of performance, Im a retired Navy Pilot; I know about Performance!

  • Great Used Car - 2006 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I bought this 2006 Maxima SL as a used car in 2009. It was a lease turn-in with only 11,000 miles on it and bought it from a dealer for only $19,800. After driving it for 2 months now, Im really impressed with it and have nothing negative to say. I have not seen or experienced some of the problems that other reviewers are reporting, so maybe they just got lemons. I commute about 35 miles a day, both stop and go traffic and highways, and get a very satisfied 23.7 mpg. The drive is smooth and the engine is powerful, not to mention quiet. Its a fun car to drive! I love the interior, with the leather seats and sky view roof. This is my second Nissan and would buy again no problem.
