This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai has added a GT sedan to the lineup. It has the same price and equipment as the GT hatchback, save for a rear wiper, and it gets a body-color rear spoiler. The hatchback will wear a black rear lip spoiler, and both GTs will come with floor mats. Meanwhile, the value-packed GLS sedan remains unchanged, except ABS will be slightly more affordable, as it has been added to the Accessory Group 3 options package, which costs $925. Finally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Elantra is now rated at 135 hp, rather than 140, though the engine itself is unchanged.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultralow price tag.
Cons:
  • Poor offset crash test score, ABS available only as a package option.

  • My first new car - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

I tested the Saturn Ion 2, and the Kia Spectra. When I drove the Elantra, I knew I had found the car, the deal, and the warranty for me. It accelerates well, feels good, looks good, and with only an extra 400$ I got all the power gadgets I wanted. I love the way it shifts, and it has plenty of places to put my stuff. A lot of the interior was similar to the Spectra, but it was way more comfortable. Steers like a dream, nice stereo, even if it is just a cassette, but I had to have a cassette for my xm radio.

  • Could have been so much better! - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Let me start by saying that we liked our car(bought it new). It was a good deal, but gave us too much trouble-we just traded it in on an 07 Mazda3. It is a MUCH better vehicle for a few thousand more. Also-Hyundais dont retain their value well. A week after taking delivery a hose clamp fell off-car lost all its antifreeze. It was towed & fixed however that was merely the tip of the iceberg: -Driver seatbelt fell off into wifes lap! -Various trim fell off in 5 different places -Ongoing transmission problems -Climate control broke -Emergency brake "broke" & ruined the rear rotors -radio, clock, visor clip all broke All this is not acceptable in just 4 years and 39,500 miles!

  • Great Little Car - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

We were looking for a resonably priced car that we could purchase with cash and avoid having a car payment. For the money, theres not any other car even in the same league as the elantra. If you can get over the name, this is one heck of a car.

  • 03 GLS rocks! - 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Bought an 03 GLS sedan as a second car for my wife to drive. She loves driving it and the fuel economy is 23 in the city. Dealer was great to us, got a remote control cd player installed. After the rebate got it for $12,150. Hard to find a brand new car for this price with this quality and warranty to back it up.

  • Elantra Fair For Price - 2003 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

The Elantra offers a powerful alternative to loud, lackluster four- cylinder performance. A few complaints: trunk very light but latch hard--takes twice to close trunk unless you slam it hard. If you dont alarm goes off. Seat belt springs weak, belts dont fully retract, and belt end flops onto door sill and can get caught in door. Seat belt buckles too close to interior, hard to latch. Steering wheel at bad angle if you are 6 feet tall or taller. Pedals close together. Otherwise, fine.
