Weve had a great experience with this van -- no problems at all. With 104K miles on it we are selling it to my wifes sister and we bought a new Odyssey van. Its all in how you drive and take car of your vehicle. We used this van on long trips mostly and it performed beautifully on the highway. We consistenly got 27 mpg on the road and 21 in town (unleaded exclusively). Changed oil every 3K miles. Kept it clean followed the service manual waxed it 1-2 times a year, and never had a lick of trouble. We dont work for Honda and dont own their stock either. We have had 3 Chrysler vans, but think Honda builds a better van.

  • Worst. Honda. Ever. - 1999 Honda Odyssey

Worst. Honda. Ever. Constant A/C problems, sliding doors that CLOSE if you bump them. In fact, you could make the door close on, oh, say, a toddler, simply by pushing in a few of the brass, pencil- sized "finders" in the door itself. Extremely uncomfortable to ride in - build for "little people". Noisy. Eats tires. Transmission problems. Lots of recalls. Words cannot express my disappointment with Honda. I guess they join the long list of companies that USED to do it right (H/P comes to mind), but have declined into mediocrity. Honda owes anyone who bought this lemon $10,000 for pain and suffering.

We purchased this minivan thinking that with Hondas reliability, we would have years of service. We were very wrong. We have had repeated power door problems, suspension problems, several recalls, and a replaced transmission. The engine now leaks oil and has less than 100,000 miles. Having owned this vehicle, I now know that I will never own another Honda again. There apparently is a myth about Honda reliability. If foreign cars are no better, why do we continue to buy them?

  • Hate this Van - 1999 Honda Odyssey

I thought this van would be nice to drive. The check engine light comes on unless I use premium gas, and a diagnostics test said the o2 sensor and the cat needed replaced. I am glad I havent had the trans problem that everyone else seems to have, maybe that was worked out before I got it. It doesnt have a smooth ride at all. The sliding doors stick and sometimes wont even stay shut, even the hatch is hard to get open and closed.

  • Honda Cannot be proud of This Product! - 1999 Honda Odyssey

We bought our van used with 68K on it, but because its a Honda we werent worried. Boy were we WRONG! In the course of 5.5 yrs & 100K miles, we have been to the service center 21 times, replaced two trannys (soom 2B 3), constant sliding door problems, ignition switch recall, hard shifting all the time, and we are about fed up. We could have bought a brand new Domestic with the knowledge that the trannys would die, at least they would have been under warranty. The good things about the van are severely shadowed by the transmission problems. The engine runs very strong, but is no good without a reliable transmission. We spoke with American Honda, and due to our mileage offered no assistance.

Overall Ive driven the van for four years and love it. The van gives me between 18-19 mpg and enjoy the comfortable ride. I would purchase the same van again.

  • A Van for all Seasons - 1999 Honda Odyssey

We have taken our Odyssey from Pennsylvania to Allagash, Maine (loaded with canoes and people) to West Virginia (again loaded... with people and canoes, that is) to Florida, the Adirondacks and out to Michigan. This has been a great vehicle to own and has made me a minivan enthusiast - something I would not have thought possible.

  • So far no transmission problems - 1999 Honda Odyssey

I bought the 99 Odyssey in 2006. So far its been good to us. This was not subject to a transmission recall. Knocking on wood.

  • Golden* - 1999 Honda Odyssey

This is the best of the best if you gotta have a mini van. Looks, Comfort, and a little power under the hood when you need it. Its not the mustang I would have if I had my way, but if you gotta have a mini van its GOLDEN.

  • Disappointed with Honda - 1999 Honda Odyssey

With over 13 re- calls or extensions of warrenty, this van has not been a good value. Ive experienced Transmission problems, gone through two catalytic converters, replaced the head gasket and had all sorts of problems with the automatic doors. This van cant be something Honda stakes its reputation on. Although my dealership has treated me excellently, I gave Honda an opportunity to keep me as a customer. Apparently, they are not interested.
