Overview & Reviews
A manual transmission debuts. Also available is a front-wheel-drive LX model, and the EX trim level now includes a CD player, antilock brakes and remote keyless entry.
- Honda quality, optional full-time all-wheel drive, spacious interior.
- The engine is a bit weak for such a large vehicle, and the front seat passenger gets only one armrest.

1998 Honda CR-V Definitely A Great Buy! - 1998 Honda CR-V
By Chen Family - June 2 - 2:00 amI just got this car no long ago. Was driving a Lexus LS 400 and Toyota 4- Runner but they were both gas guzzlers. Started to look for something more fuel- efficient without compromising the reliability, design, and fun and voila! Got this used 1998 Honda CR-V (still looks and drives great!) and is loving it!

Good reliable stuff - 1998 Honda CR-V
By TinLiz - February 18 - 2:00 amI often leave my CRV sitting for a week without driving. I call it my car that sits well. It always starts without a murmer. Its been very reliable, no maintenace except regular oil and filter changes. Brakes are excellent, tires and balance excellent - I do mostly highway driving and once it gets to 65, it has to be kept in check. If it ever gets old, Ill buy another CRV.

Died in the middle of the street! - 1998 Honda CR-V
By first honda - January 3 - 2:00 amI drove a CRV automatic for about 50K miles. It died in the middle of the street when I was attempting to accelerate repeatedly. The warranty was still in place but I was told the warranty was voided because we could not show documentation of the oil change schedule. Then the service technicians told us that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle despite the fact that it died repeatedly. I traded it and wont buy another Honda.

I love it! - 1998 Honda CR-V
By countrycommuter - November 18 - 2:00 amMy husband calls this (affectionately) the "gutless wonder." It is underpowered but on my 110-mile commute on hilly, country roads, I dont have a chance to pass anyone! It handles superbly. The reliability is fantastic. The only car I have ever owned with 0 defects on purchase. It still has no mechanical problems. Ive been in two fender benders (including hitting a mule at 35+ mph) but no structual damage. I wont swap it for my husbands 2002 CRV!

CRV Evaluation - 1998 Honda CR-V
By Ymmot - October 17 - 2:00 amThe CRV is not a true off road rig. But as a winter vehicle for northern climes, it cant be beat. Fairly godd AWD. Adequate power. Always starts in below 30 temperatures. Good visibility and above average handling in slippery conditions. I really like it. Last vehicle was an AWD Ford Aerostar van.
