  • 2018 Accord EX-L and Touring 1.5 CVT - Test Drive. - 2018 Honda Accord

I was a little disappointed in the 2018 Accords. . I own a 2015 Accord EX-L and anticipated on upgrading to a 2018 upper trim model. I test drove both the Touring and EX-L. In short I found the EX-L to handle better and less noisier. I am a light footed driver and turbo lag was felt in both trims: And, a little less in the EX-L. Yes the new Accords are quicker but the turbo lag was a no no for me. Also, the initial takeoff sound of the turbo engine/ CVT was louder than I expected. Other observations. . In ECO mode the A/C did not work in either trim. In normal mode the A/C was not as cold as my 2015 model. Also, not including the Heads Up Display in a EX-L Navi is a big mistake especially charging $1000 extra for navigation. Sorry to say the 10th Gen Accord did not win me over. I am a Honda fan and I will keep my 2015 until something better comes along. . .

I traded my very good 2014 Honda Accord EX-L for this 2018 Accord EX. So far I am extremely pleased. This car is better in almost every way. The look of the car is more sophisticated and luxurious. The technology is on par with almost any car on the market today especially at this price point. The layout of the dash is crisp and clean. Everything is very intuitive. You dont have to hunt for a dial or a switch. It is right where you expect it to be. The fake wood veneer is tasteful. The 8 in touch screen makes the tiny screen in my 2016 BMW look old and dated. I think the addition of knobs plus a touch screen is a winning combination. Road noise is down a bit...not Lexus quiet but a little better than before. The stock stereo is fine for most folks. There seems to be a bit more room in the newer Accord but I havent looked at the numbers. The trunk is large and spacious. Seats are pretty comfortable. This is always a matter of taste. My wife thinks my old Accords seats were better. The 2014 had leather. This time I opted for cloth with heated seats. I am crossing my fingers and using Scotchguard. I saved 2K by not going with leather but I dont know if I will miss it. Important to note is that you can get heated with cloth in the Accord for 2018. This was really an attraction for me. I also opted for the heated steering wheel and the USB plug for the back. The ideas was to get most of the benefits without the cost. We shall see. The ride is comfortable but not plush. If you have had Accords before you will know what I mean. A few small things to note. I love the new Honda Sensing , the blind spot warnings in the mirror are good. I also like the adaptive cruise control and the lane keeping assist. I have used it on the highway and it does seem to keep me in the lane a bit easier. It is not autonomous driving but an aid. I didnt opt for Nav The car has Apple Car Play. I dont think you can bring up Google maps on screen so you are stuck with Apple maps which I think are inferior...but I am not 100% certain.. the tech guy said.. Apple Car Play.. Apple maps..haha. This is odd... but someone else will care. You get Michelin tires on the EX but I dont think they come standard on the EX-L. Michelins are important to me so this was another incentive. I think the wheels are stock 17s. I am not in love with this design but didnt want to pay for better or bigger wheels. The professional reviewers say the 17s ride better but I only rode in the EX. before I bought the car. I had already made up my mind that it would be one car EX or the EX-L. I was satisfied with the EX after I drove it and then it just came down to color. There are a few nit picks. The CVT is just ok. Dont expect a miracle. Acceleration is adequate and only just so. My 320 xi BMW drives better as far as road feel but I really do like this car as well. Food for thought, you may not want to pull the trigger til after the 2.0 I think it is... 10 speed automatic comes out. All of life is about choices. I didnt want to pay more for what I perceived would be limited value for my money, nor did I want to wait. Others may disagree. I did like the wheels on the Touring by the way so of course there is that. All in all I am very pleased, I opted for no extended warranties nor maintenance plans. that is why I buy Hondas. I think Honda knew who its buyers were and built a great car for them. I think you will be hard pressed to find a better mid priced sedan.

  • Right off the truck! - 2018 Honda Accord

Compared the 2017 and 2017 Honda Accords and went with the 2018 based on a few things. First was MPG, the 2018 is rated at 35 Highway vs 27 for the 2017. Sure, dropping to a 4-cylinder helped, but performance is just fine. 2018 has a LOT more leg room and storage since they expanded the wheelbase. Trim is nicer and technology is better. Gone are the rightside video cams - replaced with the blindspot warning signals. Radio/Navigation controls are much larger and more visible and easier to view. Overall, the 2018 won out over the 2017. My disappointment was I now have to buy PREMIUM gasoline so the MPG savings is eaten up by gas price increase. A bit disappointed with the connectivity to my iphone and the console. Some functions connect via bluetooth while others need a physical hard wire USB connection. Thats just annoying. I like the lane departure function as well as the Adaptive Cruise Control which lets me set a speed and distance to the car in front of me - VERY nice on a highway full of cars. The radio/navigation display, though VERY large can be a distraction when youre trying to go from one thing (navigation) to another (radio). Lots of buttons to discern and takes your eyes off the road. Thank goodness for that lane departure safety feature! The auto climate control never seems to be happy. I set it at a temperature (70) and I feel cold air blowing at times and warm at others. Riding comfort is fantastic with the heated and COOLED leather seats! I run hot, so I REALLY wanted the cooling seats which pushed me over the top to go with the touring package. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and hope I get the 9+ years that I got out of my Honda Civic!

  • Luxury car on a budget - 2018 Honda Accord

I bought a 2018 Honda Accord Touring model only four days ago. I was planning on purchasing a Toyota Camry XSE; however, I could not find any moon roofs in the 4-cylinder model. Then, I decided to test drive the Accord with Touring trim. I bought my Accord only two days later! The Touring trim comes standard with a moon roof and leather, my two wants. The Accord blows away the Camry: the Accord is so much better. My other car is a 2014 Mazda6. At the time it was the best mid-size car on the market and won many awards. The Accord is now a much better car than the Mazda6, including the new ones on dealer lots. (My Mazda 6 has 52,000 trouble free miles on it.) The Accord drives and handles like a luxury car. Once you drive one you will want to buy it!

  • By no means a home run. - 2018 Honda Accord

A lot of features attracted me to this car. The styling is great, Mustang inspired front, Audi RS7 inspired tail. Very roomy cabin and trunk. Semi-autonomous features that come standard, Android Auto integration etc. I have had the car for three weeks now, using it for a short daily commute and one highway trip. I am coming from a Toyota Prius and an Infiniti G35 before that. The car is far from perfect. I drive it mostly in Eco mode to conserve gas, and put it in Sport mode when merging onto traffic. Mileage I get is around 27 in the city, 35 on the highway. Things I miss from my previous cars: Having to fish out my key from the pocket (no proximity sensor), heated seats. Now the imperfections: Cabin noise at highway speeds, poorer quality sound system, static picking up local radio stations, creaking driver door latch, driver visor does not have an extension to block sun coming into your eyes, stiffening of the steering wheel combined with an overly sensitive lane departure warning causes me to have expend extra effort to steer to stay in lane.

  • Family sports sedan with few compromises - 2018 Honda Accord

Let me begin by saying that I totally understand how great modern automatic transmissions can be - but I i find driving a manual to be so much more enjoyable. I have driven with paddles and they are just not the same. Consequently, finding a car with a manual transmission to replace my awesome (but aging) 6-speed manual 2005 Volvo S40 T5 AWD was my first priority. Unfortunately, there really isnt that much to choose from. I considered a Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Civic Hatch, Ford Focus ST, VW GTI, VW Golf R, and Subaru WRX. All of these come with a set of compromises. I was thrilled to learn that Honda was going to offer a manual on their larger (2.0L) engine for this Accord re-design. This almost never seems to happen. If there was a wagon version of the Accord, it would have been tops in all the things I wanted. Even without a hatch, it was hard to match the value of the new Accord. The thing that put me over the top was the rear legroom. With two small children using car seats in my family, this was a big plus. See how much legroom you have up front after installing a rear-facing infant car seat in a Ford Focus! Even though I had never owned one in the past, based on favorable automotive journalist reviews and Hondas reputation, I pre-ordered my white Accord Sport with a manual transmission mid-October. The car arrived within five days after 2.0L Accords starting rolling off the lines. I am very pleased with my purchase. The backseat is extremely roomy. I can install my daughters rear-facing infant seat and still put the front seats all the way back. If you have small kids you will know this is a rare feat for a mid size or below automobile. Overall it is a great family car. The Accord is going to replace our Subaru Forester as the road-trip mobile. Aesthetically, the car is fantastic. Two things Im not thrilled about: First, the trim/detail along the rear windows toward the back corner of the car is silver chrome. It would be better if it were black chrome like the Sport models grill. The front end, just over the edge of the hood, does stick out a bit. I think it would have looked better if it did not protrude or even tapered backward. Nevertheless, the black chrome on the Sport model reduces the prominence of the grill area in general (a common complaint) and overall makes it look pretty darn good. The black chrome sport grill is an available add-on option. Id recommend considering this for any non-sport trim. Trust me, it will look better. These somewhat minor criticisms aside, I feel the Honda designers hit a home run. The shape if the car is very fetching. It really does look more expensive than it is. The black accents in the grill and wheels on the Sport model set up what I believe to be a spectacular looking contrast with my white sedan. Driving this car has been a blast. It has a smooth sounding and feeling engine, and a great shifter. The seats are very comfortable with good bolstering and support. You can even move the lumber support up and down (not just in and out) on the drivers seat. That is a first for me. There is ample acceleration and power. The car feels very fast. Any more power might not do the car many favors given that it is FWD. You can lay down more rubber than you expect with the 2.0L engine. This probably wont stop me from seeing what the tuners at Hondata have to offer once my warranty is up. Body roll is very minimal in hard turns and the suspension strikes a great balance that supports aggressive driving while not punishing passengers when you drive over potholes. The controls are intuitively laid out and the touch-screen is responsive. The sound system is only average, and the Sport should have been given the option of a head-up display, but it is sadly not available. And you cant choose your preferred interior color if you go with the Sport. That kind of sucks, but the standard black is very nice. This car would be an absolute beast, and possibly one of the best sport sedans on the market, with AWD and a turbo-charged 6-cylinder engine. Im sure that combo would out-perform high end German and Italian Sedans for half the price (are you listening Honda? Id pre-order one of those today!). If you want to have fun driving your car, want a manual transmission, have a family (or other adults) to haul around in the backseat, and really like the idea of long-term reliability, I cant see a better choice than the Honda Accord 2.0L Sport. I absolutely love this car.

  • Great style, economy, and technology - 2018 Honda Accord

So far I really love this car. Access to the USB port for Android Auto could be a little better. The gear shift blocks it somewhat. Also my Samsung Note 4 barely fits in the cubby hole where the USB port is located. Back seat room is superior. The ride is very nice overall. So far I would highly recommend buying this 2018 Accord.

Know what others paid for it before going to the dealer. Check out Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima too! Accord 2018 is really a sharp looking car. I love the technology like lane departure and auto high beams and blind spot, cross traffic, etc. I have the Touring and I love it so far.
