great suv. good looks. gets fairly decent gas milage on the highway for an suv.seven seater fits my familys needs for around town, but on a trip 3rd row seat is useless as you need that area for cargo have had problems with in dash 6 cd changer, cds get stuck in player after player gets hot. also wish ford would have put a light under the hood.overall great truck.

Our third Explorer,a 92(still have),99,and this 03( all Eddie Bauers). The 03 has more useable space, better mileage, handles & rides better, and is alot quicker. My 52" wife loves the larger size, as we looked at the Expedition and found it to be too big. The third seat is a blessing, and takes up -0- cargo space when folded down. Negatives: noisy tires, front end growl, a tranny that is slow to shift from reverse to drive, and rough idle. The rear window popped open as we were on the road, sometimes at speed. The rear door is WAY too heavy and difficult to handle. HELLO, anyone heard of aluminum?

I like this vehicle but have a problem with it the dealer just cant fix. It has a loud noise and vibration from the (we think) drivetrain at highway speeds. Ford has a TSB on it but no sure cure. I have seen my dealer 7 times about this problem. Otherwise I like the vehicle design and performance.

THIS IS MY 3RD EXPLORER SINCE INTRODUCTION IN 1990. I HAVE TO SAY FORD HAS COME A LONG WAY WITH THIS PRESENT MODEL. ITS QUIET, SMOOTH AND POWERFUL. THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR IS WELL FIT, AND HAS A RICH UPSCALE LOOK TO IT. BEFORE PURCHASING MY EXPLORER I LOOKED AT THE CHEVY TRAILBLAZER, AND WAS NOT IMPRESSED, GLAD I BOUGHT THE EXPLORER

After comparing to the Honda, Chevy, and Toyota I went with the Explorer not only for the price but the value of vehicle equipment content. I know why Explorer has been such a big seller for so long. Love it!!

  • My Last Ford - 2003 Ford Explorer

This is my 7th (and last) Ford. I bought it used with 34000 miles on it four years ago. It now has 61500 miles on it, and in that time I have replaced: the rear differential, the rear axle seals, the rear main seal, the oil pan gasket, the cruise control servo, the transmission cooler, and both front wheel bearings. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty. Also, the paint is peeling at the corners of the hood. I have seen many Explorers do this, and have heard it is a problem with many of them. The third row seat is nice, but doesnt allow much room for any cargo.

Do Not Buy this vehicle!! What a waste. I have replaced the rear differential at a cost of $1100, only to have it right back in the shop with more rear end problems. I bought this because it featured a 3rd row seat, which is great, however it spends more time in the shop than it is driven. I will never buy another Ford.
