This Year's Model Updates:

A boost in engine displacement and technology, plus an available all-wheel-drive system keeps BMW's venerable 3 Series at the top of its game in the competitive entry-level luxury market. Larger wheels and brakes are part of the engine upgrade. Two-stage front airbags, reduced steering effort, a Cold Weather package and Dynamic Brake Control round out the major changes for 2001.

Pros:
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners, available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
Cons:
  • Pricey for their market segment, limited cargo capacity.

  • Good Reliable Car - 2001 BMW 3-Series

I really enjoy my BMW. The coupe is one of the most aesthetically pleasing cars to look at and I wouldnt change a thing when it comes to styling. The sports seats are firm and fantastically comfortable -- my back gets really sore from bad car seats and these are good enough to drive 12 hours a day. My car has a sports suspension which gives it superb handling but the automatic transmission makes my 325 a little underpowered so if you are into speed get the stick. The fuel economy in mixed city/highway driving is only about 22 mpg which is probably average for a car of this age with this type of performance characteristics.

I purchased my BMW 1 week ago and i am loving it, well its fun Driving it and its very comfortable and Powerful. All what i did to the car after purchasing it is changing Filters and Engine Oil, which is a normal service check after buying a used car.

I just passed 245,000 miles and am still using the original clutch, AC compressor, starter, window motors, engine computers and most other parts. With proper maintenance it has been a great car. I average about $300 per month in maintenance but keep it in perfect condition which is far cheaper than buying another new car. At 150,000 the entire suspension was replaced, new brakes and tires. It was like a new car. Still uses no oil, changed every 10K.

  • BMWs are VERY Over-rated - 2001 BMW 3-Series

Found a 2001 BMW 325I with only 34K miles on it! Thought I had found a steal! Found out I was robbed! Had this car less than a year and have had to replace headlight assembly, front grille trim, rear window motor. Oil light comes on randomly! Worst of all, when it rains the interior leaks so bad it would make a great fish bowl! No one can find where its coming from! Biggest piece of junk Ive ever owned! Now I know why it only had 34K miles on it, no one wanted the piece of junk! My first and last BMW!

  • This Car Is The Standard - 2001 BMW 3-Series

This is my fifth BMW. Ive had a 635, two sevens and an E36 M3, and this one is every bit as much fun as those, even if it isnt as flashy. Its the perfect integration of performance, style and practicality.

This car does what you want it to do, and thats almost anything. Great car, a lot of power, great handling. Everything i wanted in a car, Ive looked at Audi, Lexus, and others and nothing compares to this one.

  • Terrific all-around car - 2001 BMW 3-Series

My 330Ci was purchased BMW Certified w/16,000 miles and it flawless shape. Dealer service is superb and is always "no questions asked" WRT my requests. The car is very quick, handles well (sport package), looks very sharp, and has numerous luxury features. The car has few faults. The steering wheel positioning (even w/tilt/telescope) takes some getting used to. Body roll is slightly excessive, given the sport suspension. I have owned an Audi TT and Lexus IS300 and I can say w/certainty that this car is a significant step above both of these cars, dealer service included.

  • Cant beat the styling - 2001 BMW 3-Series

Bought this car for my wife for daily commuter with approx 90k on it. Bought it for the reliability concept since we had bought my daughter a 95 325i and loved it. It has the touring and sport options. Car was in very good condition for the year and serviced regularly. So far replaced water pump, window regulator, washer fluid motor. To me these are things that commonly occur with any vehicle with this mileage and is to be expected. You can get a piece of junk with any manufacturer. This car is a blast to drive and gets 27-29 mpg to boot. Cant beat the styling and when I do get to drive it, its usually too fast.

  • For the money, no real alternatives. - 2001 BMW 3-Series

I got this when the over-powered steering was included: which BMW later replaced with the proper sport steering for no cost (and I hear changed back factory production as well). Ive liked it a lot, but there were minor glitches: CD player had to be replaced because CDs wouldnt always eject (this problem manifested the day I drove it out of the Munich delivery center and I didnt have time to fix it then...the work-around was to push up against the upper lip of the slot). One other oddball thing was 1 brake light already had to be replaced at 40K miles. But for 40K miles, that seems like a good record (so far).

We purchased this car from a dealer in Fl. and took delivery at the factory in North Carolina. It was a great experiance we reccomend to any one buying a new BMW. The car has meet or exceeded our expetations. The car has 6000 miles on it with NO problems. It is a fun car to drive. With the new 3.0 engine it has good power, the sports package gives a sports car feel to the handeling.Only drawback is unability to rotate tires. Fit and finish is very good, car is easy to keep clean except wheels due to brake dust.We would buy another one.
